Tizen 5.5 first milestone (M1) released: What’s new?

The first milestone (M1) of Tizen 5.5 has been released. With this release, developers get the Tizen kernel, device drivers, middleware subsystems, and Native/Web/TizenFX APIs. As expected, the Tizen 5.5 Public M1 release comes with a bunch of new features fine-tuning the platform. It promises improvements in reliability during power off, adds a Web Engine Upgrade Framework, as well as introduces several new features. Below are the highlights of this release.

Tizen 5.5 Public M1 release highlights

  • The latest Tizen milestone release comes with an embedded speech recognition engine for enhanced Speech To Text (STT).
  • Support for .NET Wearable UI extension (Tizen.Wearable.CircularUI) 1.2.0 has been added, bringing in MediaPlayer and GoogleMapView support.
  • Multi-assistant framework enables support for multiple assistants simultaneously.
  • UI Framework adds support for Lottie animation viewer and Meson build system. Evas map quality has also been improved.
  • Tizen 5.5 M1 adds support for the 4K and 8K resolution display.
  • WRTjs, a new type of JavaScript-based WRT Framework, has been added.
  • A notification API set has been added to represent various information.
  • Graphics engine now supports multi-window rendering.
  • Background memory management has been enhanced.
  • Neural Network Runtime and Neural Network Streamer have been added as experimental features.
  • Kernel for Raspberry Pi 3 and ODROID-XU3 has been upgraded to version 4.14.
  • The open source wayland-protocols has been upgraded to version 1.16.
  • Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) sink target now supports up to two different source devices.
  • .NETCore has been upgraded to 3.0.0 preview 2.

In addition to these, the Tizen 5.5 Public M1 release adds many more new features to the platform. It also fixes several bugs and know issues from previous releases. And as always, the latest release also contains some known issues which the Tizen developer team would be working on to fix with subsequent milestone releases.
