The Gear S3 is Samsungs current flagship Tizen based smartwatch and has been acknowledged by consumers for great performance and design. Today, a post found on a Korean forum, and tweeted by Tizen Cafe, suggests Tizen 3.0 is currently being tested on the Gear S3 with software / firmware version CQI4. The update is thought to be in development for all S3 models; including the Classic / Frontier / BT and LTE variants.
This isn’t the first time that this update has been mentioned for the S3, we have previously reported on the Samsung Gear S3 being updated to Tizen 3.0. The S3 is currently running Tizen version 2.3.2.3 and performs quiet well, as can be vouched by me and the majority of our readers, as we seldom have battery or performance issues.
Post a Tizen 3.0 update, we expect major improvements such as better syncing with your smartphone over Bluetooth and WiFi. The new update will bring us even smoother UI performance, which might seem a bit hard to fathom as the current UI is pretty slick at 60fps. We would expect a new system wide theme that we have seen on the Gear Sport, the only other fitness tracker running Tizen 3.0. Other expected improvements include better battery life, real-time heart rate monitoring and more accurate activity tracking. You will also be able to better log your daily calories thanks to widgets that are also found on the Gear Sport.
At this time we have no further Information regarding the actual release date of the update or which markets will receive it first, but I do have a gut feeling that it will be before the festive season 😉 We are hoping the Gear S2 also gets the Operating System refresh, but there is no news on that at the moment either.
