Stellar Blade might make its way to the PC…eventually

TLDR

  • ShiftUp is considering a PC version of Stellar Blade, but there's no confirmed release date.
  • The game launched as a PS5 exclusive in April and has sold over 1 million copies by June.
  • ShiftUp plans to expand Stellar Blade with new DLC and collaborations for continued growth.

Stellar Blade’s development studio ShiftUp has indicated that there’s a chance the action-adventure game could make its way to the PC at some point in the future, but there’s no timeframe for this currently.

Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive back in April to mostly positive reviews and excitement from fans. As of June this year, the South Korean developer estimated that the game had sold over 1 million copies.

When will Stellar Blade get a PC release?

At the company’s IPO press conference this week (reported by GamesMeca and translated by Video Games Chronicle) the CFO Jaewoo Ahn said that they are “currently looking at a PC version of Stellar Blade, which we believe would be a great way to monetize the IP once again”.

ShiftUp’s CEO Kim Hyung-Tae reiterated that a PC version of the game is on the cards, but outlined the fact that they can’t say any more than that currently: “We are considering a PC version of Stellar Blade, but we cannot comment on the exact timing or whether or not it will be released due to the contractual relationship.”

The statements also confirmed that the company plans to expand Stellar Blade with new DLC and IP collaborations.

“Our goal was to create an IP with high value to ensure branding in the process of gathering users around the world and building a fanbase rather than maximizing profits,” Kim Hyung-Tae said.

“In this process, we minimized the parts that users might feel uncomfortable with, such as microtransactions, for the sake of brand value, and we plan to reflect these parts in a way that users can understand. However, it will not be immediate.”

This news is definitely exciting for PC gamers and forms a part of why it’s a great time to be a computer user. Console emulators are currently seeing leaps and bounds in development, and progress has been made towards getting the Holy Grail of PlayStation emulation, Bloodborne, running.
