Smartwatches are some of the most convenient mobile devices available in the consumer market but, like computers, mandate certain security concerns. In the enterprise world, companies understand the convenience of smartwatches and wearables for employees due to their voice command capabilities that allow employees to perform various tasks hands-free, but still won’t allow them for fear that enterprise data could be leaked or compromised.
To ease enterprise fears, Samsung SDS, Samsung Group’s information technology solutions unit, has announced its very own Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution for enterprise smartwatches running Tizen, the Korean giant’s very own mobile platform, at CES 2017 this week.
Samsung’s Enterprise Mobility Management allows companies to remotely include corporate apps and programs and even activate the lock screen or wipe a smartwatch, should it be declared lost or stolen by an employee. To save on battery life, Samsung’s EMM solution also gives users the right to turn down certain functions such as Near Field Communication (NFC) and GPS, which can drain battery life significantly.
The way to encourage market adoption of Tizen devices, including smartwatches, is to ease fears and concerns and give entities and consumers greater control over their devices. Samsung’s Enterprise Mobility Management puts companies in the driver’s seat and offers them a hands-on control that grants them greater understanding of security issues and ways to prevent them. By understanding the process, companies and consumers no longer see smartwatches (or mobile devices in general) as an obstacle to overcome but, rather, a convenience to be cherished.
