The Next Gear Smartwatch, codenamed Orbis, will be with us soon with the launch looking more likely to be at IFA 2015 in September rather than Samsung Unpacked which is in 2 days time. This is the first circular Smartwatch from Samsung that will feature a new User Experience that utilises a bezel that can be used as an Input method.
The news of the day is that the Orbis / Gear A will be offered with 3 different variants, with model numbers: SM-R720, SM-R730, and SM-R732, and are referred to a Orbis Internally. “The SM-R720 is internally known as the Orbis S1, the SM-R730 is called the Orbis S2, while the SM-R732 is internally known as the Orbis Classic”, according to the website Sammobile. We know the device will be offered as GSM and WiFi version, and we would guess the Orbis Classic would imply some styling changes to the others.
Samsung has already released the wearable SDK and developers are able to start building apps for it. This is the first time Samsung has made a SDK available before the actual launch of a product. The Next Gear Smartwatch will features a 360 x 360 pixel Super AMOLED circular display, Exynos 3472 processor, 768MB RAM, 4GB of onboard storage, Bluetooth v4.1, Wi-Fi b/g/n, cellular connectivity (in some variants), NFC, a heart-rate sensor, and a 250 mAh battery.
