Samsung’s home market receives Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear VR headset

On the 30th of August, the IFA conference was held in Berlin, Germany, and this event saw the release of numerous devices from Samsung Electronics which includes the Gear Fit 2 Pro and Virtual reality headset. Yesterday, it was announced that these gadgets have now been released to the South Korean market. Samsung will partner with a global sports brand to promote these products. For now, the availability of Gear Fit 2 Pro which has been upgraded with new swimming functions will be low because the company plans to release only 1000 units. Each unit will be sold for about 229,000 Won ($202).

“Our new Samsung wearables help consumers ‘go beyond fitness’ and enjoy an active, balanced and fulfilled life in a smart and seamless,”

This fitness tracker offers much-improved features relative to its predecessor (Gear Fit 2). One of the improved features is its accuracy in real-time heart rate monitoring during sleep, exercise or sports. From Wednesday, Samsung will release the Gear VR with a controller which ensures that virtual reality content is compatible with the latest editions of Samsung smartphones (Galaxy Note 8, S8 and Note Fan Edition). With this VR device, you are able to turn your compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone into a portable virtual reality machine.

As a reminder, the 34g Gear Fit2 Pro features a 1.5-inch 216 x 432 Curved Super AMOLED display (with 16Million colours). It comes with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage which is expandable up to 2GB and runs Tizen 2.3 OS. This device has a 5-ATM water resistant body which gives it the ability to track water-related activities such as swimming (both surface and underwater) up to 150 feet. It is powered by a 200mAh battery which delivers a 3-4 days talk time and a 5 days standby time. The fitness wearable comes with GPS and WiFi 802.11 b / g / n 2.4GHz, heart rate sensor, gyroscope, barometer, and accelerometer. The S-Health app is instantly triggered to track swimming, the Speedo app can do this as well but you will miss out on the real-time heart rate monitoring.
