It looks like Samsung are ready to take their Bixby voice assistant to the next level if a new brand name that they have registered is anything to go by. In Europe, the Bixby Vision trademark has been registered, which has followed several days of rumours regarding a Samsung Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant that is to be embedded in the camera of the upcoming Galaxy S8 and S8+.
Looking through the description of Bixby Vision we can see a visual search function that can recognise objects as well as written text. Bixby has the ability to work with both the front and the back cameras. We would expect the first device to support this technology to be the Galaxy S8 and S8+, but then we should see it being Integrated into Samsung Smart home, IoT, and SmartThings devices, many of which are Tizen-based.
We would hope that Samsung will begin Integration of Bixby vision or Bixby AI assistant in their Tizen range of smartphones, as this would help raise the profile of the platform and also lays the foundation that the company can build on that is independent of Google’s Android platform.
