Apple TV and AirPlay 2 support has finally arrived on Samsung Smart TVs. Compatible Samsung TVs, which include all 2019 and select 2018 smart TV models, are receiving a firmware update which brings the two new apps. Samsung had announced the support for Apple TV and AirPlay 2 during the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in January.
Earlier this month, the company announced that the Apple TV app will be available in more than 100 countries, while the AirPlay 2 support will come to users in 176 countries. Samsung is the first TV vendor to support the Apple TV app on a smart TV platform.
Apple TV app available for Samsung Smart TVs
Samsung is rolling out a new firmware update for its smart TVs in Europe. The update brings the long pending Apple TV and AirPlay 2 support to compatible TVs. Samsung’s Q9FN 2018 QLED-TV models are among the ones receiving the latest firmware update. The new Apple TV app allows the owners access to Apple TV channels as well as the entire iTunes library of movies and TV shows. The app is fully integrated into Samsung’s Smart TV platform, and is compatible with Samsung’s services such as Universal Guide and Bixby, delivering a seamless user experience.
In addition, Apple’s original video subscription service, Apple TV+, can also be accessed through the app. Apple TV+ launches later this year. AirPlay 2, meanwhile, will enable customers to play media content from their Apple devices, such as iPhone and Mac, directly to Samsung Smart TVs.
The new update is currently being rolled out in Europe, with Netherlands being one of the countries to receive it.
