Samsung Pay could be launched very soon in India

Samsung’s mobile payment service Samsung Pay has become quite popular over time in a handful of countries where the service has been launched. However, despite numerous speculations in the past and India being a key market for the company with a huge number of customers, Samsung have still not rolled out Samsung Pay in the country.
Samsung-officially-Teases-Samsung-Pay-launch-IndiaBut that could possibly change in a short time as Sammobile reports that the recent Android Nougat 7.0 update for the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge that started rolling out in India brings along a teaser message as a pop up which says “The future of payments is coming soon!”. The 7.0 update also preloads the Samsung Pay app as a system app which is likely to receive an Over the Air (OTA) update once the service is announced in India.
This hints us that Samsung Pay could be announced in a matter of days or weeks in the country and become competition to other mobile payment services such as PayTM, Freecharge and the Indian Government’s own Bhim app. With the recent demonetization hit that took place in India to curb fake money, terrorist activities and impact black money holders, there has been an acute shortage of physical paper notes in the country. The Indian government are hence promoting digital payments and are encouraging customers as well as businesses to adopt cashless payment services.
This is the perfect time for Samsung to launch Samsung Pay in India and becomes easy for the company to market the service and gain immediate growth of user base. With the launch of Samsung Pay, it is most likely that Samsung’s wearable devices Gear S2 and Gear S3 will also receive an update to support mobile payment in the India at NFC supported payment POS (for the Gear S2 and Gear S3) and even regular swipe machines thanks to the Gear S3’s MST feature.
