We have previously reported on the launch of Samsung Pay BETA for the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic in the United States. Today, Samsung have also expanded the compatible devices to also include the Gear S2 3G variant.
The Samsung Pay app has received a software update that now makes it functional on the 3G smatwatches. When you are ready to complete a payment with your watch all you need to do is hold the Back key for a couple of seconds, then hit start and now you are able to complete you Samsung Pay transaction.
You can get the update by launching the Gear Manager application on your smartphone and select Update. Once that’s done, select Samsung Pay Beta and enter in your details.
Now that you are ready to start making mobile payments using your smartwatch its worth remembering that the S2 does not support Magnetic Strip Transmission (MST), used in swipeable card readers, but only works with newer Near Field Communication (NFC) readers. Hopefully you won’t have to worry about this too much as lots of retailers are already upgrading their systems to be NFC compatible.
