Intel and Samsung have announced that they will be collaborating on the integration of Intel’s ‘Wireless Display’ technology into Samsung smart TV’s. This technology will allow a PC or Laptop running latest Intel processors to stream content directly to a Samsung smart TV without the need of a router , access point or 3rd party receiving device. This technology is expected to be in place by the end of this year. Intel stated that they will be placing media streaming chips in smartphones and tablets.
“Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8.1 operating system will augment the media streaming technology with new features” – Kirk Skaugen, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s PC Client Group.
There is a technology currently available based on DLNA available named Samsung Link (previously AllShare Play) that allows the streaming between Samsung devices but this requires users to be connected to a Wi-Fi network. This makes the link between Samsung and Intel stronger and we know already that the two major firms are collaborating on a new Tizen device. So will the new Tizen device feature an Intel chip with Intel’s ‘Wireless Display’ technology? What do you guys think?
