Samsung is scheduled to make an announcement today at IFA 2017 in Berlin, Germany, where the Korean giant is expected to introduce two wearables, the Gear Sport smartwatch/tracker hybrid and the updated Gear Fit fitness band, the Gear Fit 2 Pro.
Well, we’ve finally gotten a look at the company’s plans, as the upcoming Gear Sport has been spotted on a huge visual sign out at IFA. The location is unknown, but that’s ok: after all, it’s the device we’re after.
From what can be seen of the Gear Sport (yes, the sign confirms the name), the Gear Sport shares some continuity with the Gear S3 Frontier and Classic, as the watch face matches that of the Gear S3 and the previous-generation Gear S2 smartwatch lineup. The smartwatch does come with a blue strap, which we’ve seen in a leaked photo confirming the Gear Sport along with the model number SM-R600 not too long ago. In the leaked photo, the Gear Sport featured black and blue watch bands.
The Gear Sport passed through the FCC bearing its design and model number (SM-R600) earlier this month, and it later appeared on the Gear App Store with the name (Gear Sport), resolution (360 x 360p), and compatible devices such as the Galaxy J7 (2016), Galaxy Note 3 and Note 3 Neo, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, and the Galaxy A3, among others. The Gear Sport landing page went live in Germany recently, and the new Gear Sport appearance on the new visual display at IFA is just more confirmation that the device is on its way.
Samsung will announce the wearable later today, but you can check out our expectations for the device before its official debut. The Gear Sport is expected to be thinner and lighter than the Gear S3 Frontier and Classic and run Tizen 3.0. With updated and added features, will keep Samsung in its formidable place in the wearables space.
