Samsung’s best selling wearable device, the Gear S2 is now getting its’s third firmware focusing majorly on the user experience and speed of access. Apart from updates, bug fixes changes to the system default apps, Samsung has also made it easier to seek help from the customer support team with the addition of the ‘Contact Us’ button on the Samsung Gear app.
Downloading watchfaces onto the Gear S2 can now be done directly from the smartwatch itself making the smartwatch more standalone than before, downloading recommended apps can also be done in the same way. In addition to watchfaces available in the market, users can now set their own pictures as watchfaces on the Gear S2 with the My Photo app.
With the new update, S health can now track user’s sleep data automatically (which my Xiaomi Mi Band does very well since and is extremely convenient than manually having to set to sleep tracking mode). Sharing exercise results directly to Facebook has also been enabled on the update, something that should please all the Pokemon Go Players with a Gear S2.
A contacts widget is now available for easier access to people who you call most often. Immediate access to a timer is probably an easy task to regular digital watches, but that has been a problem on smartwatches like the Gear S2. Samsung have fixed that by adding the functionality to S Voice, all that a user has to do is say start, pause, resume and stop the timer. S Voice on the Gear S2 also gets word streaming functionality.
Frequently used apps like Schedule, Weather and World Clock have also been modified with useful changes to simplify user experience and provide more useful features at the same time. The latest update can be installed by syncing the Gear S2 with the user’s smartphone through the Samsung Gear App.
