We have been excited about the release of the next Samsung Tizen fitness wearable tracking device and today its official. The Gear Fit2 Pro fitness tracker has made its appearance on Samsung’s website in Spain. We were possibly thinking the unveil could happen at the Galaxy Note 8 unpacked event later today in New York, US, which might still happen.
Pretty much everything has been confirmed with regards to specifications, other than the exact processor details. This seems like an official unveil of sorts as the page is still live and not a place holder that we have previously seen for this device.
It obviously runs Tizen, but we don’t know if it is still on Tizen 2.3.2 or has made a jump to Tizen 3.0. Specification wise the Gear Fit2 Pro has Bluetooth 4.2, Curved Super AMOLED 1.5-inch screen with a 216 x 432 resolution and 16Million colours. There is no doubt that the screen will look like a knock-out on this wearable device. We also have Integrated GPS and WiFi 802.11 b / g / n 2.4GHz. Physical dimensions are 51.3 x 25.0 mm and weight of 34g.
There is 512MB RAM with 4GB Internal storage, with 2GB that is actually available to users, which can be used for watchfaces, apps, pictures and music. Spotify lovers will also ‘love’ the fact that it has Spotify offline music playback. On the sensor front you have Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyroscope and Hear Rate Monitor (HRM).
To power is all we have a 200mAh battery, which is rated at providing 3-4 days use of frequent use or up to 5 days of occasional use. As a Gear S3 user, who gets 3 days use out of his smartwatch, I’d expect these figures to be accurate and not manufacturer over exaggerations 🙂 For water resistance it is rated at 5 ATM, which is 150 feet and beats the IP68 rating of last years Gear Fit2.
You can map your fitness with Speedo, UA Record, MapMyRun, My FitnessPal and Endomondo apps. We do not know pricing and availability details at the moment, but a recent leak suggests that it will be $199 in the US, $20 more than what the Gear Fit2 launched at.
