Samsung has been working on its smart speakers for a while and has now announced that the smart speaker, which would be powered by Bixby, would be ready in the second half of the year 2018. Samsung has already made the Galaxy S9 official and mobile chief DJ Koh has announced that a foldable Galaxy product will eventually come. DJ Koh assured that the Galaxy X foldable phone is not a gimmicky device but Samsung wants to focus on gaining its users “complete confidence that we’re delivering the best user experience when launching a new category.”
Tech giants like Apple, Amazon and Google have already unveiled their smart speakers and Facebook is reportedly working on its own smart speakers, Samsung cannot be left out of the race. DJ Koh has announced that the speaker will come in different tiers.
Koh says, “When I introduce the first model, I don’t want to give the impression that Samsung delivered another affordable mass model. I want to focus on more premium.” Koh’s statement suggests that the Bixby speaker will sell for a price similar to that of its rival the Home pod or Google Home Max. If Samsung aims to accomplish this feat it has to convince people that its hardware and sound quality is over the Home Max.
Samsung shared its intentions to expand its voice service to third-party developers and smart homes back in October last year. Earlier this year Samsung signalled an upcoming expansion of its services by announcing the Bixby 2.0 which added smart home device and 3rd-party developer support for the platform. Samsung will debut its smart speakers sometime in the second half of the year 2018, but details of the exact release date, as well as features and price, are not yet known. While we anticipate the Bixby speakers we hope it will launch alongside the Galaxy Note 9.
