It’s needless to say that with a huge number of Raspberry Pi users worldwide, the community keeps growing by the minute and the list of ROMS available for this dirt cheap PC on a card is endless. With the hardware readily available everywhere, Samsung sees the Raspberry Pi (Pi 2 to be precise) as the right platform to grab hold of developers and build their interest towards Tizen.
While the development behind bringing Tizen onto a Raspberry Pi dates to a long time back, recently Samsung has ported version 3.0 of Tizen to work on the $35 Raspberry Pi 2. And if you are some what familiar with the way Android rom development works in public forums like xda, then you’ll know that a lot of Roms are built over a base Rom but with more added features and services. Samsung has essentially provided a similar base ROM now of Tizen for the Pi 2 which might soon be used by developers to build their own custom Tizen based ROMs capable of having various features suitable for iot applications, surveillance, entertainment, etc. The customisation can be done through tools provided by Linux based collaboration projects.
While the Raspberry Pi 2 already has an impressive list of OSs supported on it like Lubuntu, Microsoft Windows 10 iot,etc. The arrival of Tizen is certainly a welcome to the Pi community and only time can tell where this would take Tizen to next.
