Samsung launches online payment support for Samsung Pay in the UAE

More than a year after its launch, Samsung Pay is now available for online payments in the UAE. Samsung Pay was launched in UAE in January 2017, but up until now, the payment service was limited to in-store retail payments only. Now with the new launch, users will also be able to pay for goods purchased online via Samsung Pay.

Samsung Pay is evidently the most flexible mobile payment solution currently available in the market. It has become one of the major differentiating factor for the Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Samsung Pay already have a few key advantages over its competitors, with both NFC and MST compatibility being the most significant one. The Korean company, however, has constantly been adding new features to make it even more useful and popular. Paying for purchases online is one such feature Samsung has added to its service in select markets, with UAE becoming the latest addition. The UAE becomes the first country in the Middle East to get the service. Samsung Pay can also be used to pay taxi fares in the Dubai city of UAE.

“We are delighted to announce this new feature to the Samsung Pay service, which will enable users to use their mobile wallet for even more transactions moving forward,” said Mohammad Gharaibeh, head of enterprise, Mobile Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics.
Samsung has partnered with regional payment gateway providers like CCAvenue and Mashreq Bank to enable this functionality. As far as compatibility is concerned, it’s compatible with all major operating systems and browsers, and mobile apps. Essentially, any app or website which supports CCAvenue and Mashreq Bank payment gateways should work with the new service.
Samsung Pay compatible devices in the UAE include the Galaxy S9 / S9+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 / S8+, Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Note 5, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A Series (2017). The service is also available on the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch.
