Do you own a Samsung Z1 mobile and also like the sound of new and useful features coming to it? Well, if your smartphone is on Tizen 2.3 software then all you need to do is update to version Tizen 2.4.x. Samsung released their 2.4 Tizen Operating System (OS) final software update via OTA on 5th February 2016 in India & 22nd February in Bangladesh and later this month to many other countries. A lot of new and exciting features and apps are available after updating.
But, according to a Samsung report there are 46% of Z1 Smartphone users that are still using Tizen 2.3 software. Is Samsung unable to update all their existing 2.3 devices? The update has been released but it seems that users are choosing not to update. The new features are given below:

As you can see there are so many new features that have been added by this update. Besides these many new apps were preloaded after this update ie. MixRadio (now unavailable), asphalt nitro, news hunt, ESPN Cricinfo, My Galaxy, Facebook messenger & WhatsApp messenger and much more. Most of the attractive and interesting games and many essential apps in the Tizen Store are available for 2.4 versions only, and not for 2.3. ie. SHAREit, Xender, Angry Birds game, VLC Media player, Whatsapp voice calling, native facebook app, UC Browser, UC Mini, Zipt. Messenger etc.
If you do not update your Z1 smartphone then you could have some serious security issues and also some good apps that will not work. WhatsApp app development has closed their service for old android & iOS versions, Nokia Symbian and for some windows phones. But, did you know WhatsApp Messenger will not work in Tizen 2.3 version. It’s time to get updating. Find update instructions are given below:
Kies Update
The following is the procedure to use to update the firmware using the Kies desktop application:
- Launch the Kies App on your Desktop
- Plug your Smartphone into the Desktop
- You should get an option to update your software
- Manually check by selecting Tools -> Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation
ODIN Update
You can download the update file from here and then follow our flashing instructions.
Manual Check
If you do not get automatically prompted to update your firmware on your smartphone, you can manually check by using the steps below:
- Select Settings
- Select About Device
- Select Software Update
- Select Check for updates

Some instructions before you update: Backup your existing data from your device to any other device or PC. Some people prefer to factory reset the Z1 before the update. Your phone must be charged over 80% in order to continue.
