Looks like Half-Life 3’s back on the menu, boys

TL:DR

  • Gamers spotted a clue suggesting Valve might be working on Half-Life 3, based on a voice actor's résumé.
  • The reference was quickly removed, but not before sparking excitement and skepticism among fans.
  • Despite Valve's small size and current projects, the rumors have reignited hope for Half-Life 3.

Eagle-eyed gamers have spotted a clue on the website of a voice actor that suggests Valve might actually be working on Half-Life 3, a game everyone thought was dead.

Natasha Chandel, an actor and voice actor who has been involved in games like Starfield and Call of Duty: Vanguard, included a line on her digital résumé referencing “Project White Sands (video game)”, attributed to Valve.

The reference was swiftly removed and the website is currently inaccessible due to bandwidth limits being exceeded, but it was not quick enough to prevent the rumor mill from spinning into a frenzy. You can also view an archived version of the site on the Wayback Machine.

Fans are both skeptical and excited about a potential Half-Life 3

Speculation on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors Subreddit is divided between excited people and those more skeptical.

“These are the kind of leaks that are always fun, a legitimate first-hand source that isn’t filtered through some influencer trying to vaguepost for engagement. Just a voice actor who probably has never heard of Steam nonchalantly mentioning they did work on Half Life 3,” said one user.

Another said, “White Sands is a park in New Mexico… State where is (was) Black Mesa.” However, another user had a different interpretation, saying “White Sands???? SNOW???? There’s snow in the Arctic… Y’know what else is in the Arctic???? THE BOREALIS!!!! OMG WE ARE SO F**KING BACK.”

Others were more straightforward in their excitement, with one user posting “Half Life 3 baby here we goooo.”

One user responding to the rumors on X posted “we’ve been getting half-life 3 leaks ever since hl2 released and the result is always the same,” with a video clip of a puppet saying “it just f**king disappears.” Another user advised caution against disappointment.

Caution may be the correct stance on these rumors, however. At this point, we’ve been hearing gossip about Half-Life 3 since as far back as 2006.

Information was recently released about Valve and its employees due to a court case. It revealed that despite its success, Valve remains a small company. They are currently developing Deadlock, a new team-based hero shooter, so it is unclear whether they can simultaneously develop Half-Life 3.
