Konami bets big on Europe as it launches first online slots

After decades in the gambling business, legendary video game publisher Konami has debuted its first iGaming offering in Europe. The company launched these on Portugal’s largest online casino, Solverde.pt.

Konami now has its sights on the rest of the online gambling industry in Europe, as it gears up to expand. Solverde Group, which owns five casinos, has already played host to Konami’s machines for years, making it a natural first place to launch slots online.

Speaking in the press release, Eduardo Aching, vice president of international gaming operations at Konami Gaming, said:

“Considering our longtime partnership in the traditional land-based space, Konami is especially pleased to congratulate Solverde.pt on this high-profile iGaming launch, at the forefront of the entire region.

“Through Konami’s owned remote gaming server, there is a wealth of proven quality slot content that we’re ready to expand to more of Europe’s leading online operators very quickly.”

The company is incredibly serious about its European online expansion, as it’s opening an office in the EU later this year.

Konami and gambling

Despite being in the gambling business for quite some time, Konami has only recently begun expanding its online offerings. They have a wealth of games to choose from, and 73 are listed as available for use on iGaming websites.

The Japanese company is best known for its video games, such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Pro Evolution Soccer. However, this isn’t the largest part of its business, with various other business ventures often taking priority. After 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V, the company effectively withdrew itself from the video game industry.

In Japan, where gambling is effectively illegal, it manufactures and produces pachinko machines. This is essentially a massive loophole in the gambling laws in the country, and there are entire pachinko halls dedicated to it. These also often pull from properties they already own, much to the chagrin of fans overseas.
