If you are a fan of Atlus and Sega’s Persona series there is no doubt you are waiting eagerly for the arrival of Metaphor: ReFantazio which comes out on 10th October and is already reviewing on MetaCritic as one of the best games of the year so far.
Atlus and Sega have treated Xbox Game Pass subscribers of late. Many of the Persona games have appeared on Microsoft’s subscription service and the recent Persona 5 Royal was a day-one arrival back in 2022.
So will Metaphor: ReFantazio be joining them? Let’s find out.
Is Metaphor: ReFantazio coming to Game Pass?
In a move that breaks away from the recent trend it looks as though Metaphor: ReFantazio won’t be landing on Game Pass – at least not yet. We have had a few instances lately of high profile expansions such as Starfield’s Shattered Space and Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred not being added, but they are extras so we can see why.
We kind of thought with the way Atlus and Sega have been supporting the service that Metaphor: ReFantazio might appear but, while it will be on Xbox and PC (as well as PlayStation of course), it will not be part of your monthly subscription and you will have to purchase it to play it.
That’s not to say it won’t appear further down the line but there has been no mention as yet. The Persona games have also only stuck around on Game Pass for a year before vanishing again, so if you want to keep playing them forever you have had to purchase them in the end anyway.
The one small solace is that as a Game Pass subscriber, you do get 10% off store buys so you can save a small amount of cash if you purchase it there. If you are a PC player though you may just wish to keep your game library in Steam where it will cost you $69.99/£59.99.
If you don’t know what all the fuss is about and just want to see if the game is for you before outlying that amount of money, you can go ahead and download the game’s Prologue as a demo and see if you are about to fall in love with this fine example of the JRPG genre.
