One of the giveaway’s at the Tizen Developer Conference 2014 was the Intel NUC, which is a tiny fan-less computer with an Intel Atom E3815 processor at its heart. According to leaked documents that have been obtained by Fanless Tech, Intel’s next-gen NUC systems could be with us by Q1 2015.
The new line code named “Rock Canyon” will have much more powerful Intel Core i3 or Core i5 “Broadwell” chips inside them, that is based on 5th-gen Intel core, which makes them more powerful and less power hungry than previous generations. This also cuts down on the amount of unwanted heat generated, and allows you to tuck these little units into more “confined” spaced. According to the information at hand, Q2 2015 we will see the first “Pinnacle Canyon” models released, that support less powerful Celeron chips based on “Braswell” architecture.
There is already work being carried out to get Tizen Common running on the Intel NUC Kit DE3815TYKHE, and it would be great to see this transition onto the new, more powerful computers once they come out. If anyone has a prototype that needs a home, please give me a shout 😉
