Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price announces retirement

A change-up is happening at Insomniac Games as the founder and CEO, who has been in the role for more than 30 years, is stepping down.

Ted Price announced the news of his retirement on Wednesday (January 22) and stated he actually made the decision last year as he “felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team.”

The founder began the company in February of 1994, with it originally being named Xtreme Software. It was renamed a year later to Insomniac Games, with the studio developing several early PlayStation mascots. It was then acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2019.

After spending the past year creating a succession plan, three names have now been announced as being the Co-Studio Heads going forward.

These include Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang who are all described by Price as having been “instrumental in making Insomniac what we are today.”

Three new Co-Studio Heads announced to take over Insomniac Games from gaming legend Ted Price

The new Co-Studio Heads have worked with Ted for many years now, with them citing him as a “longtime friend” in a new blog post titled ‘what’s next for Insomniac Games.’

“Sharing the news that Ted is retiring from Insomniac Games is still just as emotional to type as it has been to think about,” the trio said.

Looking to the future, they write that their “shared intention is to preserve what has made Insomniac special for 30-plus years while exploring how we can strategically evolve to succeed for decades to come.

“We’ll continue prioritizing our studio culture, built around transparency and collaboration. We strive for a workplace where employees can do the best work of their careers.”

For fans of the studio and the games it produces, this means they’ll carry on making the games that are loved in the aim of “making a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives.”
