Huawei’s working on the world’s most powerful mobile chip – twice as powerful as the Kirin 970

Huawei is one of the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer and just like the other top guns in the field, produces its own hardware parts. This greatly helps to bring down the cost of devices, as well as control the dominance of chip manufacturers like Qualcomm, keeping the market in a competitive state.
Huawei’s current flagship chipset, the Kirin 970 is on par with the best Qualcomm chips out there. But it does fall short when it comes to the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Huawei is yet to announce its successor, the Kirin 980, which is believed to give competition to the Snapdragon 845, thanks to the advanced 7nm manufacturing process from TSMC. But it’s not the Kirin 980 that’s making a buzz right now. According to some reliable sources from China, Huawei is working on a new chipset – Kirin 1020 – that’d be twice as powerful as the Kirin 970.

Kirin 1020

The Kirin 970 is Huawei’s current flagship mobile chipset, which the company has been using for its smartphones. It is an 8-core CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.4GHz – 4 x Cortex A73 at 2.4GHz and 4 x Cortex 53 at 1.8GHz. The 12-core Mali G72MP12 GPU provides a 20% increase in performance and 50% increase in efficiency over the previous generation. The Kirin 970 is also the world’s first mobile chipset to have AI chip on board.

All these specs already make Kirin 970 one of the finest mobile chips in the market. Now latest reports are that Huawei is working on a chip that is twice as powerful as Kirin 970. This means the Kirin 1020 would be the most powerful mobile chip ever.
Unfortunately, no specific details about the chip are available yet, but sources say that the chipset will go into mass production once the first 5G network launches. Huawei will be launching devices with Kirin 1020 in China soon after that.
