There are two camps when it comes to large open-world games. Those who fast travel and those who do not.
The trains of thought for some is that fast traveling ruins immersion – you are, after all, not meant to go whizzing around the map and doing things super-quickly. The other is that some people simply have more limited time to play and need to maximize what they can get done in their free time.
Of course, if you are one of the gamers who loves to mainline through the main quest solidly for 48 hours and then complain on day three that there is not enough content in the game then Readwrite Game has no sympathy for you. Enjoy your gaming.
With all that said, in vast, open landscapes fast travel can be a boon. So does it exist in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl? Can you bomb around the Exclusion Zone as if you are on an overclocked Segway? Let’s find out.
How to Fast Travel in Stalker 2
Right. You can Fast Travel in Stalker 2 so let’s get that out of the way, but whereas some games that include the mechanic supply you with Fast Travel points seemingly at every corner, Stalker 2 is not one of those games.
In the depths of Chornobyl, the only fast traveling you will be doing is between your own bases. And we are kind of alright with that.
When you are at a base you then need to find the Guide – an NPC merchant marked by a crosshair on the map. Speak to the Guide and they will offer to whisk you off to any other bases you have found and unlocked. Pretty simple really.
The kicker, and again, we kind of like it, is that there is a cost to the service, and it ain’t cheap. Coupons are currency in the Zone and it will cost you 2,000 big ones to save your legs – and that’s just to the closest base. Better get walking.
It’s good that Fast Travel is included if you simply must use it, but the point of the game is to wander through the Heart of Chornobyl – not just teleport between points trying to finish the game first. Relax kids.
