The Tizen-based Samsung Gear S3 frontier is already available from US carriers T-Mobile and AT&T on their GSM networks. We have been repeatedly asked when the S3 will appear on Verizon, which is a CDMA carrier, and so far they have been very quite about their current launch plans.
Now, it looks like Verizon users might not have too long of a wait as a Gear S3 Frontier CDMA variant has made an appearance at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is the United States primary authority for communications law, regulation and technological innovation. This is a necessary step before any device can use any airwaves in any of the 50 states in the United States.
Samsung has previously launched a CDMA variant of the Gear S2 (SM-R730V) on Verizon, so this does seem like more of a formality. The FCC filing for a Gear S3 frontier has the model number SM-R765V, which has the right naming convention for Verizon. How long will it take to launch? That’s always a tricky question, but after an FCC visit, it doesn’t usually take too long.
