With the Gear S2 smartwatch being a great hit for Samsung, the South Korean consumer electronics giant had recently unveiled two new Rose Gold and Platinum edtions of the Gear S2 at CES 2016, Las Vegas. These new variants take a premium makeover while keeping the innards of the smartwatch similar to the regular Gear S2 Sports and Classic versions. Now, Samsung has gradually started the roll out of the smartwatch in different markets around the world starting off with China and over the past couple of days pre-orders for these new editions of the Gear S2 have been up in Europe and USA as well.
The Rose Gold edition, just like the name suggests has an 18k rose gold plating and incorporates a 20mm ivory genuine leather strap. The Platinum edition on the other hand has a Titanium plated housing along with a similar 20mm genuine leather strap but in black. Samsung has also introduced new watch faces for the Tizen based smartwatch that inculcates artwork by popular artists and cartoon characters like peanuts. Samsung has also partnered with developers to bring more app based services like CNN,Bloomberg,eBay,ESPN,Uber and Voxer onto the Gear S2.
The pre-order listing on Amazon’s USA store quotes a price of $499.99 for both the Rose Gold and Platinum editions and has mentioned an expected delivery between 1 to 2 months. While in Europe, a dutch online store called Coolblue has listed the pre-order of the Gear S2 for €479.99.
As days go by, these premium variants of the Gear S2 are expected to hit more markets. India will be among them as Samsung had recently announced during the launch of the regular Gear S2 smartwatches that the premium versions will also be making way by the end of february.
Samsung is clearly looking to grab the attention of consumers who have an eye for luxury watches to strap on to smartwatches without having to make any compromises on the looks. We are delighted to see how this will work out for Samsung and the smartwatch scene alike!
