Galaxy Sport could be Samsung’s next smartwatch

The Samsung Galaxy Watch has not been out long, well, since August this year. The smart wearable was officially unveiled alongside the Note 9 – which seems so long ago now. Well, time waits for no man and neither does the tech giant Samsung. The latest rumour is that they are working on a successor to the Gear Sport with model number SM-R500 and codename Pulse.

It could be called the Galaxy Sport

It is not known what the official name of the next Samsung sports device will be. There is speculation that it could be called Galaxy Sport. The Gear Sport, which was released last year, came with model number SM-R600, so it seems a little strange that the model numbering is now going backwards. The Gear S3 has model SM-R7xx and the Galaxy Watch has models SM-R8xx – so these are definitely going in the right direction this time.

Galaxy Sport Specs

Many of the Galaxy / Gear wearables do not sway much from the basic specifications, such as running the Tizen OS. Samsung have chosen not to flirt with alternative OS’s like Google’s Wear OS. This OS decision seems to be working well for them, but they still do not have an answer to the limited number of apps available. Most likely you will find 4GB storage, 360 x 360 Super AMOLED screen resolution, Exynos processor, and to top it off ATM-5 water resistance.

Galaxy Sport release date

Nothing is certain at the moment. The Gear Sport was announced at IFA 2017, alongside the Gear Fit2 Pro. So, as we have missed IFA 2018, we could be looking at a launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S10. This seems like the earliest feasible date Samsung could work towards in 2019.
