Elden Ring Nightreign is taking the ‘Souls’ franchise to a new level, introducing a time-limited adventure taking place over three nights.
These short bursts of gameplay allow you to make it through a smaller map, felling various enemies that lie in wait.
Since this game is also a squad-based affair, many are wondering if the PvP element of Elden Ring will make its way into Nightreign, allowing you to fend off others as you progress.
Here, we’ll reveal if Elden Ring Nightreign has PvP or whether you’re only facing computer-controlled foes.
Elden Ring Nightreign PvP: Everything we know
For those of you who are wanting to mix your boss killing with PvP action, sadly, you’re going to be left wanting.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a PvE only game focusing on the three night journey toward the inevitable Nightlord.
This was confirmed by Junya Ishizaki, the game’s director, who stated that they are “not considering adding PvPvE or battle royale” mechanics. Instead Nightreign is developed “with cooperative play in mind” rather than fighting each other to the death.
Additionally, there won’t even be the ability to leave messages for other players which is a surprising removal since it’s been a mainstay throughout the Souls franchise.
The reason why it was removed is because since it’s more of a drop in and drop out game, with each ‘match’ lasting approximately 40 minutes, there’s “no time to write your own message, and no time to read messages” rendering them a little pointless.
You will still be able to see ‘ghosts’ of other players though which could potentially aid you in not falling to your death after watching them make the fatal mistake instead.
As for whether we’ll see PvP introduced later down the line, it’s all a bit up in the air.
While Ishizaki did say that they weren’t considering adding PvP elements, once the game comes out and players start requesting the feature in droves, we could see him change his mind.
Moreover, the technical behind the scenes work has already sort of been done since Elden Ring has PvP so transitioning that to Nightreign shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.
