No matter the time, it’s always time for a good discount — and today’s discount is one for diehard Samsung fans (that’d be you, Tizen Experts readership!) The Gear S has popped up at eBay on sale for $169.99, 57% off the original retail price for the smartwatch.
The Gear S was announced by Samsung back in 2014, and it was the first Samsung smartwatch to feature a 2-inch curved, Super AMOLED display with a 360 x 480p screen resolution. While the Gear S was perceived to be too futuristic for some, that 2-inch, curved display makes the Gear S stand out in a way the circular Gear S2 doesn’t. The Gear S also allows for band interchangeability, meaning that you can just pop out the display and pop the display into a new band whenever or however you wish. It has the typical specs of most current smartwatches: 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, and, in this case, a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
There are a few caveats with this Gear S deal. however. First, keep in mind that the Gear S is a cellular-connected smartwatch and runs only on Verizon’s network in this case. So, US customers, this can only be used via Verizon’s network. Next, this device only works with Samsung smartphones. While the Gear S has 3G data (not the 4G that the Gear S2 has, unfortunately), it only works in tandem with Samsung smartphones. Gear S2 fans have grown accustomed to non-Samsung smartphone compatibility, but there’s no such luck for the Gear S.
Lastly, this Gear S is only available in charcoal black, so there’s no other color available (not even white). If you love the three “S’s,” squares (form factor), Super AMOLED (display), and Samsung (the manufacturer), then the Gear S (see, there’s another “S”!) is just for you.
