Samsung finally went official with its two latest smart wearable gadgets at IFA Berlin, 2017. Before their launch, the rumor mills have been buzzing over the last couple of weeks about the two new wearable devices. The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro and the Gear Sport both runs on Tizen operating system but the Gear Sport has been revealed to run Tizen 3.0 while the tech giant left us wondering the Tizen version the Gear Fit2 Pro runs on.
One major difference between the two wearables is the display design. While the Samsung Gear Sport has a round 1.2-inch display with 360 x 360 resolution, the Gear Fit2 Pro features a 1.5-inch Curved Super AMOLED display with 216 x 432 resolution. The Fit2 Pro equally has a dimension of 51.3 x 25.0 mm and weighs 34g.
The Gear Sport will surely make a good buy as it seems to offer more value for money with its superior hardware lineup. It comes with network connectivity which is the LTE Cat 4 150Mb/s and packs a 1GHz Dual-core processor and a Mali-T720 MP1 GPU. There is an LPDDR3 RAM on board and an eMMC 5.0 native storage. There is also space for an SD 3.0 expansion card. The Gear Sport even comes with a 5MP camera which is capable of recording videos at 30fps and you can playback the videos as well. The Gear Sport can also be used to control Samsung IoT-enabled devices through Samsung Connect and use your Gear Sport as a remote control for even Samsung’s Gear VR headset.
The Gear Fit2 Pro features a 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage but only 2GB is available for users to use in saving watchfaces, apps, pictures and of course music. The Gear Sport on its part comes with a dual-core 1GHz processor backed by 768MB of RAM and there is 4GB of internal storage and wireless charging. The Gear Fit2 Pro comes with a 200mAh battery which is capable of providing 3-4 days use of frequent use or up to 5 days of occasional use. Obviously, with more functions, the Gear Sport packs a larger 300mAh battery. The Gear Fit2 Pro is rated as having 5 ATM (50-meter) water resistance which is 150 feet and beats the IP68 rating of last years Gear Fit2. The Gear Sport also comes with 50-meter (5ATM) water resistance is new and ideal for swimmers who intend to take to the water to get the most out of their new sports smartwatch. The Gear Sport features Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection over the display. Samsung also included NFC on the Gear Sport but no MST, which means it can only be used o NFC terminals and not on card readers, unlike the Gear S3 which features both.
Buy the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro or Gear Sport?
Samsung is yet to announce the prices for both the Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear Sport but the former is thought to be priced around $199 and $349 for the Gear Sport. No official availability has been announced, but we have heard whispers of the 27 October for the Gear Sport.
