Samsung being an Industry leader in Electronics, has a good Brand value across all seven continents. This makes the company both responsible as well as influential in the development of Human Resource in these continents. In recognition of the company’s various citizenship programmes, Brand Africa 100 recently awarded Samsung as the ‘Most Admired Brand‘ in Africa based on an Annual survey of top 100 brands in the continent. During the 2016/17 period, Samsung also grew by 13% in terms of Brand value and hence becoming the top brand in Eight African Nations.
Samsung’s primary focus in developing Africa has been to improve the Education conditions in rural areas. The company has been devoted to the cause since 2011, the efforts have led to the development of Smart Schools, eLearning Centres and Digital Libraries in rural areas across the continent. Until now, Samsung has established more than 10 Digital Villages.
Samsung has also set up an innovative solution called Solar-Powered Internet School in villages that lack basic infrastructure facilities such as electricity. With about thirty such schools in operation, the schools have seen a 100% pass rate so far. Another ongoing initiative by Samsung is the Engineering Academy which has so far given out over 1,000 qualified technicians graduate from the programme. With Women Empowerment on the rise, Samsung has also included the Women Technical Programme in South Africa and Ghana since 2016.
Yoo Young Kim, CEO and President of Samsung Electronics Africa was quoted saying “Our efforts in Africa have been in close partnership with various partners, NGOs and government bodies, and we look forward to continuing these shared efforts to contribute to a brighter future for Africa as well as improved global society.”
