The Gear S3 Classic launched alongside the Gear S3 Frontier, but there was one inequality between the two at the time: the Gear S3 Frontier was LTE-enabled, while the Gear S3 Classic was not. Samsung changed that when it announced the Gear S3 Classic LTE earlier this year. Though the smartwatch is selling in Samsung’s home country, it isn’t selling in the US.
That’s all set to change with AT&T, as one of the two giant US carriers has announced that it will start selling the Gear S3 Classic LTE in its retail stores on Friday, May 26th. The Gear S3 Classic LTE is similar to the Gear S3 Classic with its smaller buttons instead of the larger buttons on the Gear S3 Frontier and its leather strap as opposed to the rubber wristband on the Gear S3 Frontier. The Gear S3 Classic LTE features the same specs as the non-LTE Gear S3 Classic: a 1.3-inch, Super AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass SR+ for scratch resistance, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 380mAh battery that achieves as much as 4 days for light users (1-2 days for most moderate users).
Alongside these are some of the most beloved features on any smartwatch on the market: IP68 water and dust resistance, Samsung Pay with MST technology that lets you make on-wrist payments at traditional credit card terminals, and the coveted 4G LTE technology that users pay for. With Tizen having surpassed Android Wear in popularity for Q1 2017, this smartwatch is more than worth a try (it’s worth a “buy”).
The Gear S3 Classic LTE will retail at AT&T for $249.99 with a two-year agreement, or $17.50 a month for 20 months on an instalment plan. AT&T is also running a special through June 30th that allows Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ buyers to pick up the Gear S3 Frontier or Gear S3 Classic for the shocking price of $49.99 (yes, a $300-off-the-watch price tag).
What say you, AT&T customers? Go, or no?
