Apple is finally letting go of the Lightning port from its accessories, with the newly announced M4 iMac series coming equipped with USB-C.
It was on Monday (October 28) when the iPhone maker shared the news about its latest iMac which features the M4 chip and Apple Intelligence.
Amongst the upgrades and implementations, the word ‘Lightning’ was absent from the release which marks a significant move away for the brand. The Lightning connector has been in use by Apple since 2012.
Now though, the “color-matched accessories” fit for the new iMac include USB-C. The new computer will come in seven colors, spanning green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.

Every iMac will come equipped with a color-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or optional Magic Trackpad “all of which now feature a USB-C port, so users can charge their favorite devices with a single cable.”
Apple’s new iMac represents a “new era” as it adopts USB-C
There will be four USB-C ports, all of which will support Thunderbolt 4 for “superfast data transfers, so users can connect even more accessories like external storage, docks, and up to two 6K external displays, creating a massive canvas with more than 50M pixels for users to spread out their work.”
The iMac will also support both Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 and have Touch ID so users can unlock their computer with their fingerprint.
The senior vice president of Hardware Engineering at Apple, John Ternus, described the iMac as representing a “whole new era.”
“iMac is beloved by millions of users, from families at home to entrepreneurs hard at work. With the incredible features of Apple Intelligence and the powerful performance of Apple silicon, the new iMac changes the game once again,” said Ternus.
“With M4 and Apple Intelligence, gorgeous new colors that pop in any space, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, and a new nano-texture glass display option, it’s a whole new era for iMac.”
