Apple TV and AirPlay 2 support rolling out for Samsung Smart TVs

Samsung had announced support for iTunes and AirPlay 2 on its Smart TVs during the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in January. The company has now begun rolling out the Apple TV app and AirPlay 2 support to all of its 2019 Smart TVs and select 2018 TV models. The new Apple TV app will be available in over 100 countries, while the AirPlay 2 support will come to users in 176 countries through a firmware update.

First TV maker to support Apple TV app and AirPlay 2

Samsung is the first TV manufacturer to launch the new Apple TV app on a Smart TV. The app will enable Samsung Smart TV owners to access Apple TV channels as well as iTunes movies and TV shows. Users just need to select the app icon to get access to more than 100,000 iTunes movies and TV shows, including the ones in 4K HDR. The contents are available to either buy or rent.

Fully integrated into Samsung’s Smart TV platform, the app will work seamlessly with Samsung’s Smart TV Services, such as Universal Guide, Bixby and Search functions. The Apple TV app also lets users to subscribe to Apple TV channels and watch on demand content. Apple’s original video subscription service, Apple TV+, will also be available through the app once it launches this fall. AirPlay 2, meanwhile, will enable customers to play media content from their Apple devices directly to Samsung Smart TVs.

“For the last decade, Samsung has been at the forefront of offering the broadest selection of content available to consumers on our Smart TV platform.” said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As the first TV manufacturer to integrate the Apple TV app on a Smart TV platform, Samsung continues to offer our customers incredible value and access to the Apple TV app experience on the largest screens available today.”
