The Line messenger app for Tizen smartphones was first launched on the Samsung Z2 in Indonesia as it came pre-installed as part of the Operating System (OS) in version Z200FDDU0API2. The good news now is that it has been released in the Tizen Store for Z2 users based in India.
What’s all the excitement about ? Well, this messaging app has quite a large user base as it attracts roughly 218 million monthly unique users. Globally you are looking at over 600 million users have already registered to use this app. Line is fairly new to the Indian sub-continent and has its largest user group in Japan, the country it was first developed in.
Line Messenger tries to differentiate itself against the competition of ever increasing messaging apps by introducing personalization features and stickers; as well as integrating games and then other services such as music, payments and taxi services.
Publishers are welcome to use Lines extended functionality compared to other chat apps. The Economist uses it to share its weekly magazine cover, CNN uses bots on Line to deliver personalized news, and the BBC fills its Line feed with animated videos. The options for broadcasting a feed or talking to individuals through stickers, emojis and GIFs are much more developed on Line than on Facebook Messenger, for example.
