Airvet Showered by Investors with $14M in Series A Funding to Bring Virtual Care to Every Pet Owner in the Country

We’ve all seen telemedicine quickly work its way into the mainstream, giving us live on-demand
access to dermatologists, therapists, or pediatricians virtually. In fact, with COVID-19 still
looming, many of us have likely used it ourselves in just the last few months. But what about
our pets? We look at them the same as the rest of our family, so why aren’t we getting the same
level of care for them? With the Airvet app, you can.

Airvet is the company behind the #1 telehealth app for pets. It launched out of Los Angeles in
2018 and just announced a $14M Series A financing to support and expand the explosive
demand for its platform. The round was led by Canvas Ventures, with participation from
e.ventures, Burst Capital, Starting Line, TrueSight Ventures, Hawke Ventures, Bracket Capital,
Michael Stoppelman, and several major veterinary industry leaders.

Airvet was built with a focus on providing a modern virtual care experience for pet owners
across the country and quickly rose to be the #1 rated pet telemedicine app in the App Store
with over 2,300 reviews and a 4.9/5 star rating. The company was started by a father-son duo,
celebrity veterinarian Dr. Jeff Werber, and his son, entrepreneur Brandon Werber.

When asked where the idea came from, Brandon shared that “It was simple. My dad is a veterinarian, so I’ve never had to worry about pet care. I’ve got two french bulldogs, Carlos and Denzel, who mean the world to me.

Whenever I have a concern about their health or a question about their behavior, I just text or call my dad and get answers I know I can trust in seconds – it’s
extraordinarily comforting. I want every pet owner in the world to have that same feeling.”

Using Airvet is straightforward and there are a couple of ways to use it depending on the situation.
One option is their “on-demand” service for pet owners who need help right away, which can be
used by all pet parents whether or not their own vet uses Airvet yet.

In these cases, pet parents can start an on-demand call 24/7 to connect with a licensed US-based veterinarian via live video or over the phone typically within a couple of minutes for just $30. There’s no time limit and cases will usually stay open for 3 full days, so pet parents can continue to access the same vet via chat for any follow-up questions or concerns.

Another option is to schedule a virtual visit with a pet parent’s own vet, if their normal vet
already uses Airvet, as thousands do. Airvet has partnered with hundreds of veterinary clinics
nationwide, enabling them to extend care virtually to their own clients.

For these pet owners, virtual appointments can be scheduled to speak to their own veterinarian for various types of virtual exams and re-checks, for example. As curbside appointments have become popular, clients can even join an exam live from the parking lot while their pet is inside with the vet. Like at their office, vets set their own prices for these services.

Unsurprisingly, COVID-19 gave the company quite a boost, with Airvet growing its platform by
over 7x in just the last few months. Their nationwide network of veterinarians has also expanded
to over 2,700 veterinarians in 43 states who have helped more than 6,000 pets get care last
month alone.

Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Werber, pointed out that “over 70% of pet parents go to Google or
social media to get answers to their pet issues before even attempting to talk to a veterinarian.

I’ve been in those Facebook groups and I’ve seen the forums where the information that is given can
be terrifying. With something as crucial as the health, happiness, and well-being of our pets, we
can’t be relying on a Google search.”

As a more reliable, accessible alternative, Airvet has big ambitions to become the go-to resource for immediate and trusted pet care.

While we don’t know exactly what lasting effects COVID-19 will have on our world long term,
one thing we do know is that virtual care is here to stay, and with Airvet — we can all sleep a little more soundly knowing that we can access real care from real veterinarians when we need it.
