Against the Storm: Keepers Of The Stone DLC adds Frog People and launches soon

TLDR

  • "Against the Storm" will receive its first paid expansion, Keepers of the Stone, on September 26.
  • The DLC adds a new biome, species, buildings, and a water-exploring mechanic to the game.
  • A free update, 1.4, will launch alongside the DLC, introducing new resources, buildings, and fishing systems.

Roguelike city-builder Against the Storm is about to receive its first proper expansion, Keepers of the Stone.

ReadWrite has previously described Against the Storm as one of the best games you probably didn’t play in 2023, and we stand by it. It’s an exceptional game with a focus on resource gathering and management to create villages rather than long-term epic building projects like most city builders, and it’s still criminally underplayed.

Players battle harsh environments and limited resources to create small villages. Complete certain objectives before time runs out and be whisked away to the next village that needs your attention.

Since the game’s launch, there have been several free updates that fix bugs, tweak balance, and add new features, but this is the first paid DLC for the Against the Storm.

The expansion adds a bunch of new features that expand on what made the base game great. It adds a new biome (the coastal grove, a watery biome wherein every settlement begins on the shores of a lake), a new playable species (Frogs), new buildings, new events, new perks, new goals….some of everything.

The trailer shows off a new water-exploring mechanic that allows players to seek out blueprints, and much-needed resources that allow new buildings to be created.

Keepers of the Stone will be released on September 26 for Steam, Epic Games, GOG.com, and PC Game Pass.

Another free update is also coming to Against the Storm

Launching alongside the Keepers of the Stone DLC, Against the Storm will also receive a new update, 1.4, for all players.

The free update promises to add tons to the game for anyone not looking to get the DLC, including new resources, buildings, needs, orders, and a new fishing system.

There will be three new types of pond resource nodes for players to exploit with fishing huts in much the same way as other resources are gathered. However, there are some differences – fishermen will gather everything from a pond before it is depleted, and only then will they transport it to a warehouse for use. Players can choose to initiate this sooner, but the pond will be depleted as soon as they do, which will encourage careful management of instant versus long-term needs.
