During the settlement quest Blame and Sail in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you’re are faced with yet another dispute involving Holger.
Once again, Holger has taken something without permission, and it’s up to you to navigate the unfolding drama of if either character is right.
Below, we’ll explain both options, reveal how they impact your relationship with Sigurd, and ultimately, which one should be picked.
Gudrun or Holger: Who is right?
The dispute begins when Gudrun accuses Holger of taking her sailcloth without permission. Holger, known for his habit of taking things without asking, has done it again, leading to a heated argument.
Initially, Eivor is given two dialogue choices — “Gudrun is right” or “Holger is right” — but these do not matter as Sigurd will intervene and take control of the judgment regardless.
Sigurd declares that Holger must compensate Gudrun with thirty sailcloths, a seemingly excessive punishment.
Even Gudrun herself is surprised by the ruling, feeling that it is overly harsh. However, Sigurd remains adamant and states that if Holger refuses to pay, he will be exiled from Ravensthorpe.
At this point, Eivor is given two more dialogue options, which are far more significant — “This judgement is unfair” or “I support Sigurd’s judgement.”
If you choose the first option, Eivor challenges Sigurd’s ruling, stating that the punishment is cruel and unreasonable. This angers Sigurd immensely, as he expects his word to be absolute law in Ravensthorpe.
This choice contributes to Sigurd’s discontent with Eivor. If you’ve made other decisions in the game that go against him, this can push you closer to a negative outcome in Sigurd’s arc, potentially affecting the ending of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Choosing the second option means that Eivor sides with Sigurd, acknowledging that his word is final regardless of whether or not they personally agree with the ruling. Sigurd appreciates this loyalty and reinforces that his authority should not be questioned.
Gudrun or Holger: Does the choice affect the outcome?
Ultimately, neither choice will change the game’s main story events or the fate of Holger and Gudrun.
However, this is one of the key moments that influence Sigurd’s opinion of Eivor. If you repeatedly defy Sigurd in multiple decisions throughout the game, it can contribute to an outcome where he distances himself from Eivor.
If you want to keep Sigurd on good terms, supporting his judgment is the recommended option. If you prioritize fairness and don’t mind potentially upsetting him, calling out the ruling as unfair is a valid choice.
Technically, Gudrun is right as Holger took her sailcloth without permission, much like he did in the earlier Mane and Tail quest.
However, Sigurd’s judgment is clearly excessive, making the decision less about right and wrong and more about how you wish to handle your relationship with him.
