A Physical Machine To Measure Tweets

On display at the British Library is a fully functional “Tweet-o-Meter” machine, which measures the real-time tweet levels in nine major cities around the world. The machine, a part of the Growing Knowledge Exhibition, was built by the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, an interdisciplinary research center within University College London.

The machine is essentially an analog version of CASA’s digital Tweet-o-Meter, which does the same for more cities via a live-updating website.

The real-life, physical Twitter machine uses ammeters to measure tweets in San Francisco, New York, London, Moscow, Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Sydney and New Delhi. Visitors can view the machine in action until July 16th, 2011.
