Bixby, Samsung’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Assistant first made its debut to the world on Galaxy S8 smartphone. The South Korean tech Giant is readying itself for the ultimate fight off with the offerings from Apple, Amazon, and Google. Amazon has had a fairly good amount of success with their Amazon’s Echo speakers that are powered by the company’s Alexa voice assistant.
Now, according to a recent report, it looks like Samsung is planning to launch a speaker that is powered by Tizen and will run Bixby. Recently, Apple has also joined the AI speaker game with its announcement of HomePod during the WWDC keynote.
Harmon Kardon, a subsidiary brand of Samsung, has recently made a similar speaker for Microsoft combining its high-end sound technology and Microsoft’s artificial intelligence Cortana platform. With this in mind, it is safe to say that Samsung has the in-house know-how and resources in order to complete the task at hand. Samsung is not shy from the fact that Bixby will form the basis of it’s AI strategy amongst its Internet of Things devices (IoT) devices. We have already seen a patent for a speaker-like device and now this report states a speaker is on the way.
There isn’t much information at hand about the new Bixby speaker at the moment, other than Samsung is hard at work on it and will be launching it very soon. “Soon” is a very misunderstood word in the IT world and we translate it as meaning a possible IFA 2017 unveiling. But then these things are known to slip, so CES 2018 or MWC 2018 might even be a possibility.
