As it’s expanding its services in Russia with agreements with Mastercard and Sberbank, Samsung is also launching its payment solution, Samsung Pay, in Canada. Redditors are reporting being able to download Samsung Pay APK on Galaxy S6, S7 or Note 5 in Canada.
After the set up, a note from Samsung informs that the service works with select CIBC cards so far. Below you can see the welcome message you’d receive if you opened Samsung Pay in Canada.
Samsung has already opened a registration page for Canadian CIBC customers. And despite echoes on many news outlets of Android Pay coming to Canada, there’s no leak proving it at date.
Support, as always for beta launches, still suffers a bit. Only one bank, CIBC, and only a few Visa credit cards – no debit cards. But the splendid news, that shouldn’t surprise the readers of this blog, is that Samsung Pay will work with pretty much any Canadian payment terminal whatsoever. This at least will keep Samsung from the hemorrhage Apple is experiencing, with people leaving the service due to lack of support from Cupertino.
