Samsung invests Rs 517 crore in expanding its Noida mobile phone plant

Samsung Electronics said on Monday that they are going to invest Rs 517 crore ($84.2M USD) in expanding its mobile phone plant in Noida. This is the same plant which is manufacturing the Samsung Z1 Tizen Smartphone and the Noida Research Centre is developing most of the phone software.

“Uttar Pradesh is one of the most important states for Samsung and the expansion of the Noida Mobile unit will further strengthen our presence in the country and enhance our manufacturing operations,” Hyun Chil Hong, President and CEO, Samsung India Electronics, said in a statement.

Samsung currently employs 11,000 employees working in U.P. and is now looking at creating more job opportunities. Samsung have shipped over $10.7 USD worth of Samsung Z1 parts to India, so combined with the plants expansion and R&D costs, this is a huge investment.
Since the launch of the Z1, Samsung have shipped 50,000 – 55,000 units according to Industry sources in over a week, which has exceeded Samsung’s expectations. We will also see shipments starting to Bangladesh soon.
