Despite the fact that Larian has no intention of making a full DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3, they aren’t quite done with it yet. A newly announced update (Patch 8) will add 12 new subclasses to the game, as well as cross-play and photo mode.
However, the patch won’t be ready until next year (exact date TBC) after being put through a stress test and public beta, which Larian are aiming to launch in January.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is finally getting cross-play
The multiplayer mode of Baldur’s Gate 3 is very highly regarded (we named it one of the best two-player PS5 games to play) but presently you can only play with people on the same platform as you – PS5 with PS5, PC with PC, Xbox with Xbox.
The new cross-play mode scraps this siloing and allows everyone to play with everyone else, which is great news for gamers with different setups.
Photo mode
There’s no question that BG3 is absolutely gorgeous. Well, now you can really make the most of that by using photo mode to set up shoots with your fave characters. You’ll be able to use it while adventuring and during combat, dialogue, or even cutscenes.
Arrange your characters, choose your lens, set the scene, edit the photo and add frames and stickers to the photo to create the scene of your dreams.
12 new subclasses
Every single one of the game’s classes will receive some attention from Larian with the addition of a new set of subclasses. Here’s a summary, but you can get full details on the patch’s Steam page.
- Bard – College of Glamour: a versatile class that can deal damage to foes and heal allies
- Barbarian – Path of Giants: take advantage of the Giant’s Rage passive to launch friend and foe alike
- Cleric – Death Domain: as a cleric of death you’ll control new necromantic spells
- Druid – Circle of Stars: access a trio of powers from beyond Faerûn’s earthly domain
- Paladin – Oath of the Crown: stay true to your oath to receive benefits in combat
- Fighter – Arcane Archer: equally reliant on magic and marksmanship, command the battlefield from afar
- Monk – Drunken Master: consume alcohol to quickly recover Ki
- Ranger – Swarmkeeper: receive the aid of deadly swarms of creatures
- Rogue – Swashbuckler: play dirty, blind and disarm enemies, it’s the pirate’s life for thee

- Warlock – Hexblade: make a pact that manifests itself as an arsenal of deadly weapons
- Wizard – Bladesinging: use swords, but in a magical way
