VMworld is a global conference on virtualization and cloud computing, hosted by VMware, the US-based subsidiary of Dell. At VMworld 2016, VMware had publicized its strategy and intent to enter the internet of things (IoT) market. The company has now announced the general availability of the first solution in its family of VMware IoT offerings. Named VMware Pulse IoT Center, the announcement marks another milestone in the company’s IoT mission.
The VMware Pulse IoT Center was initially unveiled at Dell EMC World 2017, held in Las Vegas last May. In June 2017, the company distributed the solution to its partners and potential customers for an extensive beta test. Since then, the company has been readying key partnerships for commercial distribution of the solution, that the company claims will help customers better manage and monitor their ‘things’ and infrastructure. Some of VMware’s partners include ADLINK, Dell EMC, Eurotech, Fujitsu, Harman, Samsung, and SAP. VMware promises more details about the partnerships in the coming months. The goal is to make Pulse IoT Center available for various industries, including automotive, entertainment and healthcare.
