Unofficial Barron Trump memecoin soared to $460M market cap before crashing

The unofficial memecoin named after Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, rose to a $460 million market cap when rumors appeared that it could have been launched by the 18-year-old himself.

An account on X posted a link to the memecoin profile on Pump.fun and claimed it was Barron Trump’s profile.

The account which shared the link was only created in November of 2024, with the thread about the alleged coin owner being some of the only posts aside from some extensive replies.

“It’s clearly made by one of their friends, with deep pockets. I believe that friend can only be the elusive Barron Trump,” the X account claimed in a post that has since received 45.7K views.

When no evidence of this to be true appeared, the price then sank and people began questioning the original posts.

While President Donald Trump is very vocal about many of his actions and intentions, not a lot is currently known about Barron Trump. He was just 10 years old when his father first became president in 2017. Eight years on and the teenager is now 18 and attending New York University.

President Donald Trump and First Lady of the US launch memecoins

On January 19th, the official account of Melania Trump posted on X: “The Official Melania Meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now,” along with a link.

The website reveals that the coin is a crypto asset powered by the Solana blockchain, with a disclaimer explaining that the tokens are not designed to be investment opportunities or classified as securities.

According to the site, the team are setting aside 35% of the supply for themselves, but it’ll all unlock in 13 months.

This came after the President shared news of his “NEW Official Trump Meme” as he said it was “time to celebrate everything we stand for: WINNING!” in a post on X. The release of Donald Trump’s memecoin occurred three days before his inauguration.
