Japanese motor company Toyota’s TTDC (Toyota Technical Development Corporation) joins the project Tizen IVI platform for the development of in-vehicle information systems which are based on Linux. TTDC displayed the information systems in the development of Tizen IVI Automotive Linux Summit which took place on May 27th of 2013.
TTDC have developed a plugin which connects the Toyota IVI control system with Tizen IVI , this ensures security via the VIC control system which is in development , and there are plans to publish the VIC as of yet. TTDC and Toyota Motors have been actively taking part in the development of Tizen IVI since its version 2.0 release in April of 2013 , with the latest specification version 3.0 currently in development.
Kenichi Murata, Project General Manager at Toyota Motor Corporation stated that Toyota will be distancing themselves from current principles in order to use open source software by Linux and that Linux specifications are suitable to be applied in embedded vehicle systems with many additional advantages such as a reduction in boot time and Linux community support.
