Tizen Samsung Gear S Smartwatch Launched in India at Rs. 29,500

The Tizen based Samsung Gear S has been launched in India and is priced at Rs. 29,500 (MRP), and it is estimated that it will have a market operating price of Rs. 28,900. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was also launched. The Samsung Gear S allows you to break free from being connected all the time to a Smartphone for data, as it has 2G/3G cellular and data connectivity built in and takes a Nano sized SIM card. You also get the latest Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi connectivity and also GPS, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, heart rate, barometer and UV light sensors. The devices is also IP67 certified dust and water resistant.

“Samsung is leading this exciting and rapidly developing wearable category through progressive innovation,” said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics. “The Samsung Gear S redefines the idea of the smart wearable and the culture of mobile communication. It will let consumers live a truly connected life anywhere, anytime.”

The Gear S has a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display with a 360×480 pixel resolution. A dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB of inbuilt storage and is backed by a 300mAh Li-ion battery. Samsung claims this will give you 2 days use, but I really have to see it to believe it at this point.
To initially use the Gear S you will have to initially pair it with one of the 20 approved Samsung Galaxy Smartphones, but after initial pairing you can disconnect and use as a standalone device. I know, not ideal.
