This morning (Friday, November 22) saw the launch of the second Wonder Pick Event in Pokemon TCG Pocket, the Fire Pokemon Mass Outbreak Event.
The event operates similarly to the previous Meowth and Chansey Wonder Pick event, giving players a variety of special event Wonder Pick packs filled with fire Pokemon. There will also be some special Flair options available during the event.
There are two kinds of Fire Pokemon Outbreak Wonder Pick packs, rare and free. Rare picks cost three Wonder Pick stamina (36 hours of time!) and can reward players with the following cards:
- Arcanine EX
- Charizard
- Moltres
- Ninetales
- Rapidash
- Charmeleon
- Blaine
The free Wonder Picks have a selection of more common Pokemon and can be picked without spending a Wonder Pick stamina:
- Charmeleon
- Ninetales
- Rapidash
- Blaine
- Charmander
- Vulpix
- Growlithe
- Ponyta
- Magmar
- Heatmor
There are also a handful of new event missions from which players can earn rewards.
- Collect One Arcanine ex Card: One Wonder Hourglass
- Wonder Pick three times: One Wonder Hourglass
- Wonder Pick five times: Three Wonder Hourglasses
- Collect five Fire-type cards: Two Wonder Hourglasses
- Collect ten Fire-type cards: Three Wonder Hourglasses
- Collect 15 Fire-type cards: Four Wonder Hourglasses
Players are finding the new event “boring” and “underwhelming”
Although the Fire Pokemon Mass Outbreak event is likely to aid players in building fire-type decks ready for the Venasaur EX Battle event coming soon, people are generally unimpressed.
“I guess it’s like the Meowth/Chansey event, i.e. really boring,” said Dan, who has been playing the game since its launch. “The only thing I like about these bonus pick events is that they give you a free wonder pick now and then so you can check off the daily missions more easily.”
Users on Reddit also expressed disappointment, with one user describing it as “totally underwhelming.”
However, some users were more keen on the event, with one player noting “It feels goofy being “rewarded” for pulling an Arcanine EX when I have zero copies and getting one at all is its own reward.”
Another player noted the utility of the event in relation to the upcoming Venasuar EX battle event: “This event doesn’t benefit me but it exists solely to prep people for the Venusaur event coming next week. Using this event ensures you have cards able to beat the next event. Really good for f2p in reality and hopefully something that continues moving forward.”
The event went live today and will run for a week, ending on November 28.
