Tesla, a forward-thinking company with a goal to integrate clean energy, energy storage and transportation solutions to the world, has been hard at work trying to carry out its master plans for the future.
Ten years ago, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Motors, formulated an ambitious plan to change the world with electric cars, and with the likely acquisition of SolarCity, he has just released a revised version of his plan.

Tesla appears to be making great strides on his original plan to begin with a low-volume expensive electric car and use the earnings to create a less expensive medium-volume car, eventually ending up with an affordable high volume car and then providing solar zero emission electric power generation options.
Next on his revised list is developing solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage, creating an autonomous car that is way safer than manual versions, increasing the electric vehicle product line to include all major segments and offering a way for consumers to earn money when they aren’t using their vehicles.
As it appears likely that SolarCity will become part of Tesla, offering a renewable energy pipeline, and with the Tesla factory ready to mass produce residential battery storage units, consumers may have all the answers to renewable electricity needs from Tesla.
With the cost of solar arrays and home battery storage solutions dropping, the move towards renewable energy at work or home may be a smarter choice financially, as well as an environmental choice.
In regards to Tesla’s goal of creating solar-roof-with-battery products that work well and making them available throughout the world, its Model III will hopefully be offered with a more affordable price of $35,000.
What Tesla means for IoT
In the bigger picture — perhaps bigger than Musk has already laid out — Tesla’s gamble is that everything is moving to the edge. Demand for cars, for power, and for logistics — it’s all becoming distributed.
As far as increasing his product line, Musk is looking into other ideas such as pickup trucks and buses too. Ideas for a new style of bus include decreasing bus size, using the space better to allow for more seats, and improving traffic congestion by matching the acceleration and breaking ability of other vehicles on the road.
Self-driving technology for all vehicles may be one of the key solutions to the clean transport movement, and many tech and car companies are on the autonomous vehicle mission. Autonomous driving technology could allow for improved flexibility for transit operators, as well as improve energy requirements through efficient route selections
Lastly, Tesla has an idea for drivers to share their vehicles by offering them as part of a fleet that people could rent when needed, so that owners could offset the cost of their monthly vehicle payments. This could be a great idea for people when they go on vacations and would normally leave their cars just sitting for several days.
Tesla has many wonderful aspirations. There may be several issues to deal with before this new master plan is fully achieved, but with all the new technology and public interest, these dreams could soon be a reality.
